Flashcards are a great way to increase vocabulary – viewing an object in its image and word form and hearing it spoken aloud helps to reinforce word associations.
These flashcards really helped my son with his receptive language (the ability to understand words & language) and to build up a solid receptive vocabulary.
I still use flashcards with my son for more complex concepts like feelings. With these types of flashcards, I’ve included 8 images of one emotion to help with generalisation.
For example, to describe ‘happy’, there will be images of happy women, men & children from different ethnic backgrounds to reinforce the concept.
Important Note: Flashcards can be used by anyone – peculiar ducklings, ordinary ducklings and big ducks wanting to learn English (or Afrikaans for that matter!)
